![]() This indicates that the neck is either too straight or has become back-bowed over time. Some strings buzz on the frets between the nut and the fifth fret. The most common scenario is that the strings get higher as the neck bows from the string tension. There’s a noticeable change in the action the height of the strings over the frets has become either too high or too low.Two primary signs tell you that your truss rod needs adjusting: This is why now, for the most part, double-action truss rods are used. However, with a one-way truss rod, if the neck warps away from the string pull, no amount of loosening the truss rod will pull the neck straight, because the truss rod only works against the pull of the strings. When a bow is purposefully pit in a neck at a controlled bow, it's known as relief. As a general rule, tightening the nut moves the neck away from the strings and brings the neck "down".while loosening the nut allows the neck to relax and moves the center of the neck "up". Tightening or loosening the adjustment nut adds or lessens pressure on the rod and neck. (Adjustments are opposite if the adjustment nut is at the headstock) Your truss rod needs adjustment when the neck of your guitar has too much or too little up-bow, or too much back-bow. One-way rods straighten the neck against string tension and up-bow two-way rods not only straighten the neck against up-bow, but can also force a back-bowed neck into either a straight or up-bowed configuration. There are two styles of adjustable truss rods: single-action (“one way”) truss rods, and double-action (“two way”) rods. The other end is anchored to give the adjusting end something to tighten against. One end is threaded for an adjusting nut and is accessible at either the headstock or through the soundhole. If you have a guitar that played great when you got it, but has developed a higher, stiffer action over time, it may be time to learn how to adjust your truss rod so you can keep the action just the way you like it.Īn adjustable truss rod is a slim steel rod embedded in the neck. Many players learn early on that a truss rod is just meant for combatting warping, and naturally assume that a straight neck is what we’re trying to maintain. The ideal shape for your neck is not straight. Here are some alternatives. When a guitar leaves the factory, the truss rod is adjusted according to the specs and strings gauge on the guitar. But a change in string gauges, climate (especially a change in humidity, and Newfoundland is wicked for it), or simply the player’s taste may require an adjustment, even on a new guitar. This diagram assumes that your guitar’s neck is not suffering from any twisting or humidity-related warping. Some folks are having a difficult time finding the truss rod nut which I recommend-which is actually known as a Hexagonal Brass Spacer Nut. If in doubt, cut the truss rod wire shorter so that the bearing cap actually sits inside the tenon (you may have to carve a widened and deepened space for it if you do so). For each truss rod in the diagram, the strings will be located above. You should anticipate this possible dilemma. Infront of the headstock to see the truss rod hole or like Im playing on the fret. ![]() ![]() ![]() In shorter scale guitars, this might result in insufficient clearance space from the hex nut to the upper transversal face brace to accommodate the particular nut driver that you may have. ![]() NOTE: The diagram shows the bearing cap extending beyond the neck tenon. The new truss rod will interfere with the soundboard when entering the neck tenon into the body mortise, so you must make a minimally adequate slot in the soundboard to clear. Wrap the rod with gummed foil as in diagram 4-16 in the book. This new design should reduce rod distort ion in the cap area. The cap on the rod design pictured in diagram 4-16 page 55 simply did not grab the top rod adequately, and tended to distort and tip under load. This one-way truss rod improvement features a more massive bearing cap. Students wishing a more versatile rod which they however must purchase, go here. Students wishing to make their own truss rod following instructions in the Chronicle Press soft-cover GTT editions should take note of this improved truss rod design. ![]()

Hunters looking to travel to Colorado for the first time or who live at lower elevations should plan on getting there prior to their hunt to acclimate and avoid altitude sickness as this can end the hunt before it begins. Because of this, hunters should expect a fairly physical hunt in most units across the western part of the state. With the archery elk season happening September 2-30, most elk will reside at higher elevations, and Colorado has some of the highest. You cannot carry your license over into another hunting season, but you can jump around into different units so long as it is enrolled in OTC hunting for that season. Your permit is only valid for a specific season. These OTC elk tags go on sale on August 3rd at 9 a.m., but remember that they can be purchased at any time before the hunt ends at any CPW location, online, by phone, and at any license sales agent. Most-if not all-OTC units have antler point restrictions of four points or more, or a brow tine that is 5” or more in length on one side. There are a few important differences to know when getting ready to purchase one of these licenses, which we will touch on. Archery, second, and third rifle seasons all fall under this OTC platform. For now, Colorado has unlimited OTC elk licenses that can be sold all the way up to and into the season for select units. However, with other states like Idaho, Utah, and Oregon moving toward draws or putting a quota on the number of permits that can be issued, it will likely force Colorado’s hand in heading in the same direction in the future. Any animal harvested on public land from an OTC area is an accomplishment, and once a hunter finds continued success under these types of conditions, they will be able to tackle most hunting endeavors.Ĭolorado is still the king when it comes to OTC elk hunting. These hunts are typically looked at as bonding experience and training for young and old hunters alike to sharpen their skills however, a service like onX Elite can help to increase the odds of success by combining the mapping expertise of onX with the unique boots on the ground experience of Huntin’ Fool. This doesn’t mean they are bad hunts it just means there is a lot more competition for the resource and hunters are often required to put in more time and effort to increase their odds of harvest. Most OTC hunts will average much lower harvest success than draw type hunts, especially on public land. These hunts are managed for the opportunity to get out in the field and enjoy the outdoors while trying to fill your freezer. We’ll look into a few of what I consider to be the best states available for hunters to secure a hunting permit this year through an OTC permit.Īlmost every state has some form of OTC hunt available to choose from. As a result, states have had more and more demand for OTC (over-the-counter) type permits, which has resulted in more pressure on the resource (wildlife) and state agencies have had to adjust the way they issue/allocate these OTC permits. This has pushed most hunters to search for alternatives to draw type permits to fill their hunting schedule. ![]() Consequently, state draws are seeing record high applications for big game year-after-year and hunters are finding themselves without a hunting permit in their hands after the spring draw season. Mapping platforms like onX have revolutionized how we find accessible public land to hunt without risk of trespassing, which 20 years ago was likely some resident’s honey hole. Throughout the last 5-10 years, insight into state draws and how they work along with tips to “beat” these draws have become more readily available. If you’re looking for information on one particular state, jump to Colorado, Utah, or Arizona. ![]() We’ll touch on a few of my favorite states for these OTC opportunities. I want to preserve the original size of columns B+G and put a minimum column width of 17 on the resized C+H. In this I have many cells in columns B:C and G:H that I want to resize. Because the macro will change the active cell, I normally put in something at the end that restores the original cell selected. Either call this in your main macro or put it all in your main macro Next record another macro where you go one by one and remerge the cells. If you want them to be equal, set both equal to the autofitted column value/2.etc. For Example, if you want to preserve the size of the first column and only modify the width of the 2nd you would set the width of the second equal to the value of the autofitted column minus the width of the first column. The next step is figuring out how you want the resizing of both to be spaced. Next put in a bit of code that unmerges any cell selected. Either call this as a seperate macro or just cut and paste it into your main one. Next record a macro where you select the cells that are merged that you want to resize. Once this is there, hide the column autofitted column. For example if you want there to be a minimum or maximum column width for both columns on the resize, create it by using IF to modify the cell (D1) that has the autofitted column width's value. Now figure out how you want to resize the columns. Make a cell in this column equal to the Autofitted column's column width value(D1). Make the cell in this new column next to the merged cell group that you want to resize = to the merged cell's value.Īutofit this merged column(D). To the right of each merged group of cells, create a new column. This is based on resizing 2 columns, but you can apply it to more. This next one is for multiple merged cells across columns (not rows) and is a bit more complicated, but builds on the same thing. Activate the resize by autofitting the row height either in a macro or on the sheet itself. Simply create a cell next to the merged cell that has a formula that = the Merged Cell's Address. The first is the easier one, for minor applications. If things will look much better with merged cells though, I've developed a two workarounds. The short answer is avoid merged cells whenever possible. I realize that this hasn't been updated in forever, but I assume its a common problem. ![]() ![]() It’s just the reality we were living in at that time, so I don’t think I regret anything.” “And the girls understand and they’re not mad at us. This bill has received pushback for various political reasons as well as individuals’ opinions, but the research is clear that diversifying transportation and providing sustainable alternatives for driving clears the roads and the air. This would not only bring about better public transit but, according to Utah House Majority Leader Mike Schultz, it would save us, taxpayers, billions of dollars over the next couple of decades. A new bill in the Utah Legislature, HB322, would put UTA and future transit projects under the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), giving transit access to state resources rather than UTA needing to lobby for every individual rail tie. There may, however, be a light at the end of the tunnel. Using electric trains may be great for the environment, but if Salt Lake is truly serious about transit and sustainable travel options, support needs to be given to UTA to maintain and expand transit vehicles, stations and infrastructure. My hometown of Herriman has a 10% annual population growth, yet its new town center is devoid of buses and trains, leaving many commuters to drive. Despite the addition of new trains for the Red and Green line expansions in 2010, they seem to have constant maintenance issues, dragging out your commute. Bus bridges constantly plague trains too, promising delays of up to 30 minutes of precious time out of your commute. When riding on TRAX, it’s not uncommon to find trash and soda spilled on the floor, and shoe marks all over seats. But if you have ever taken the train or bus before, you may be hesitant to try again, even with a monetary incentive. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) even offered “ Free Fare February” last month where all UTA services, buses, trams and trains, were completely free the entire month (including ski buses). Motor vehicles contribute to more than 50% of emissions in Salt Lake, poisoning the air we breathe. It’s not that the city hasn’t tried, the implementation of TRAX and Frontrunner trains contributed to fewer car trips per day before COVID-19, meaning less traffic congestion and shorter rush hours. Our state needs to get serious about sustainable public transportation.
